چکیده

Optical strain maps calculated during a facial expression describe a bio-mechanical property of facial skin tissue, and are derived from the non-rigid motion incurred during facial expressions. In this paper, we propose a method for accurately estimating and modeling the three-dimensional strain impacted onto the face using standard optical flow techniques and a dynamic depth map. We demonstrate the robustness of this approach at different depth resolutions and views. Experimental results are given for a publically available dataset that contains high depth resolutions of facial expressions, as well as a new dataset collected using the Microsoft Kinect synchronized with two HD webcams.

Simultaneous measurement of three-dimensional joint kinematics and ligament strains with optical methods.

The objective of this study was to assess the precision and accuracy of a nonproprietary, optical three-dimensional (3D) motion analysis system for the simultaneous measurement of soft tissue strains and joint kinematics. The system consisted of two high-resolution digital cameras and software for calculating the 3D coordinates of contrast markers. System precision was assessed by examining the...

Computing topological invariants without inversion symmetry

We consider the problem of calculating the weak and strong topological indices in noncentrosymmetric time-reversal (T ) invariant insulators. In 2D we use a gauge corresponding to hybrid Wannier functions that are maximally localized in one dimension. Although this gauge is not smoothly defined on the two torus, it respects the T symmetry of the system and allows for a definition of the Z2 inva...

3D Model Identification Using Weighted Implicit Shape Representation and Panoramic View

In this paper, we propose a 3 dimensional (3D) model identification method based on weighted implicit shape representation (WISR) and panoramic view. The WISR is used for 3D shape normalization. The 3D shape normalization method normalizes a 3D model by scaling, translation, and rotation with respect to the scale factor, center, and principal axes. The major advantage of the WISR is reduction o...

Obstacle avoidance for unmanned air vehicles using optical flow probability distributions

In order for an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to safely fly close to the ground, it must be capable of detecting and avoiding obstacles in its flight path. From a single camera on the UAV, the 3D structure of its surrounding environment, including any obstacles, can be estimated from motion parallax using a technique called structure from motion. Most structure from motion algorithms attempt to...

Facial pose from 3D data

The distribution of the apparent 3D shape of human faces across the view-sphere is complex, owing to factors such as variations in identity, facial expression, minor occlusions and noise. In this paper, we use the technique of Support Vector Regression to learn a model relating facial shape (obtained from 3D scanners) to 3D pose in an identity-invariant manner. The proposed method yields an est...
